MRS. CRATCHIT

The Untold Life of the Mother of Tiny Tim

by
Eugenia Jensen

Bob Cratchit’s wife was a minor character in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, not even deemed worthy of a first name. Yet in this suspenseful reimagining of the holiday classic, she is called many things— rich girl, runaway bride, madwoman, governess, actress, whore, witch.  Finally, as a devoted wife and mother, she realizes her son, Tim, is dying and the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge has the power to save him. On Christmas Eve, Mrs. Cratchit summons all lessons of her past incarnations to execute a daring plan that will alter the fates of Tim, her family, and Scrooge himself.

Mrs. Cratchit is an extraordinary heroine – smart, strong-willed and compassionate as she defies the suffocating gender dynamics of her time and battles desperately for her family in Eugenia Jensen’s fascinating and suspenseful reimagining of the holiday classic. The novel is unpredictable and thought-provoking and filled with compelling characters that you only think you know. - Edgar Award Winning Author, David Housewright
